Chris Paine, Owner Marrakesh House
Chris is a filmmaker and environmentalist living in Los Angeles. In 2006, his documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before being released later in the year by Sony Pictures. The film, which framed a story of a quashed technology as a murder mystery, won critical acclaim to become one of the more successful documentaries of recent years.
Previously, Chris was an executive producer on Faster, a documentary narrated by Ewan McGregor about the world’s fastest motorcycle race, and No Maps For These Territories, a film about the cyberpunk author, William Gibson, with U2’s front-man, Bono. Chris also produced for the MTV series BUZZ and assisted writer/producer Michael Tolkin on the feature films The Player and The New Age.

In addition to his work in film, Chris is also a noted entrepreneur. In 1984, he co-founded Mondo-tronics which provided materials for the Mars Pathfinder mission. His firm, Internet Outfitters, one of the early players in web 1.0, which went public as AppNet in 1999.
Chris studied documentary with Jon Else at Stanford, theater with Sanford Meisner and improvisation with Keith Johnstone. He has a BA in international relations from Colgate University.
